The Whispering Atolls

The Whispering Atolls is a cropping of circular islands on the northern pole of Anath. It is one of several Undisputed Zones on the planet, a term simply meaning that the DIS controls the area completely. The airspace of the Atolls is a no-fly zone, a fact well known to both Dominion navy pilots and civilian craft. This is strictly enforced, even to the point that Dominion military run the risk of being shot down by order of Darth Ensis should they be unwise enough to violate this ruling. Access to the Atolls is limited to DIS and Inquisition personnel. (Though VIPS have on occasion been granted limited access, and Darth Ensis is known to stop by the Inquisition Archives due to his unlimited access to Atoll 944).\
\
The Atolls serve as a bastion for the DIS. It takes full advantage of its remote location and easily defensible position, circled completely by two planetary immobile turbo laser batteries and several surface to air missile towers to protect it from arial assault. Guard towers on the ground are manned at all times, with cannons dotting the surface to mop up any larger potential ground assaults.\
\
What goes on in the Atolls is a matter of speculation. It is known that the DIS Executive Board is mostly based in the Atolls, when not on board the Blackspire. The Executives operate from two entire floors of the fortress, pouring over the organisation’s strategy and analyzing data from all over the Sast system. It is said that the Board is a titan that few can surpass, with just about every aspect of life in the Sast system touched by this gathering of some of the most formidable minds the system has to offer.\

Atoll 398, one of the fortress’s smaller islands, is said to hold the Inquisitor branch’s experimental alchemy study unit. Its confined space being perfect for Inquisitor candidates to go about their work in a controlled environment. There they have access to any ingredients they could need to practice their art, and a large fighting ground to test any beasts that have been engineered by their hands.\
\
Atoll 944 houses the Inquisitorial archives. A repository for a wealth of information, relics and ancient artifacts that are locked away in sealed vaults. From scrolls of knowledge and eldritch sorcery from Dark Lords of bygone eras to actual items of dark power, they are all buried in several levels in the archive’s underground bunker. The library in the Archives holds original volumes from the likes of legendary sorcerer Darth Xakrel to entire tomes of forgotten Force technique, to volumes on the rare technique of infernal meditation, to forbidden knowledge not seen by the public. Holocrons from Dark Lords past line carefully curated shelves, themselves locked in heavy duranium chests. Access to the archives is restricted to Inquisitors only, who gatekeep its secrets jealously. Non-Inquisitors face the penalty of death if they try to access the Archives, with Darth Ensis being the only known person outside of the branch allowed to access the Archives if he so wishes.\

Atoll 426 is one of the most shrouded in mystery. It is said that this Atoll houses nothing but thick expanses of forest, but in this forest hides something unseen and undocumented but fierce and powered by the Dark Side. Those exposed to this unseen force either do not live long enough to tell others what it is, or slowly grow insane from its evil presence. The bodies recovered from this atoll have vicious claw and bite marks upon them, but what made these wounds is nothing that even the most advanced science can recognize. Inquisitors are said to be able to hold the beast at bay with intense training, but what it is, even they cannot say.\
\
Atoll 000 and 001 are known to house the DIS archives. Inside these bunkers on each island is a wealth of information on all manner of people, in all manner of situations in the Sast system. Atoll 000 houses some of the most sensitive black level information in the system. Compromising information later used for blackmail, scandalous pictures, reams and reams of text and hundreds of hours of video that would cause pure outrage aimed at political enemies should it ever be released. These atolls also house active listening posts, which use DIS orbital satellites to cover large swathes of the planet and keep their ears and eyes to all the most current goings on with the system.\
\
The Whispering Atolls are also known to produce some of the DIS’s proprietary technology and cutting-edge vehicles. Atoll 597 produces the DIS Mobile Fortress and the infamous DIS Hostiles, Enemies & Radical Extremists Speeder, Reaction Vehicle “Y” or “Heresy mobile”.\
\
What lies in the waters of the Atolls is a mystery akin to what monster stalks Atoll 426. A massive, shadowy figure stalks the sea. Sailors in the area warn ships to stay well clear of the waters around the Atolls, as the monster has been known to attack boats or swimmers that come anywhere near its waters.\
\
As access is so tightly restricted, the Whispering Atolls is never much of a topic of discussion in the Dominion. Leaving it an enigma to everyone outside of the secretive DIS. Perhaps, this is for the best. The monsters in its seas and forest are only the start of one’s problems in the Atolls, after all.
