Tryos is an often-overlooked part of the Dominion. It is a small planet on the edges of the Sast system, whose fractured moons form a loose asteroid cloud around it. It has no atmosphere and is almost completely uninhabited. However, it houses some of the most technologically advanced outposts in the sector.
Tryos’s worth comes from its strategic position. It takes approximately three centuries to orbit the system’s sun, meaning that it retains, now and for the coming decade, considerable proximity to the system’s hyperspace jump zone, and will continue to be a quick starting point for any defensive fleet for eighty to ninety years. As such, the Imperial Space Station (ISS) *Pulsar* is in geosynchronous orbit around it, providing constant surveillance of hyperspace traffic in and out of the system, as well as a crucial early warning system against oncoming fleets.
Tryos’s surface houses a small number of high-level scientific facilities under the umbrella of Secar Labs, paired with Military Intelligence listening posts that provide streams of scraped HoloNet metadata to the Warmind. Most of these bases are drilled into the planet’s bedrock, before being reinforced by durasteel pillars; hermetically sealed prefabs are then slotted inside, and artificial gravity provided. Unusually for Imperial bases, advanced holotechnology is used to maintain staff morale, as prolonged isolation on the barren world can result in a form of mental alienation known as Tryos Syndrome, which has resulted in violent incidents and psychotic breaks in the past. Still, the planet retains considerable worth, because its lack of an atmosphere and minimal power signatures are perfect for long-range listening devices, or to contain dangerous biochem experiments. As such, these facilities are unlikely to be abandoned, as long as the Dominion seeks to preserve its technological and informational edge.
