Secar

Secar is the second planet of the Sast system. Large, and mostly uninhabited, it seems to have once housed vibrant primordial life, and orbited closer to the system’s star, before it was knocked to a different course by an unknown event, likely an asteroid impact in past millennia. Fungi and aggressive fauna still stubbornly cling to a precarious existence amid its snowy fields and icy crags, where the surface temperature is constantly below freezing, and often reaches the point of flash-freezing any exposed liquids. Caverns, deep beneath the permafrost, still house native species, in spots where geothermal or volcanic activity is sufficient to create hospitable micro-climates, however it is not considered suitable for sustainable human habitation. Part of that comes from the species known as the Tang, a semi-intelligent people that may have hailed from an offshoot of a near-human species, presenting a number of surface similarities with the Massassi: they are tall, muscular, and the evolutionary process has favoured specimen with clawed feet, which helps them quickly climb. Some sub-species are noted to be hairless, protected by a subcutaneous layer of a fat and a rugged leather-like skin, while others have a mangy white or grey fur. They are considered the apex predators of their world, which still houses vestiges of megafauna, including creatures categorized as “leviathans”, possibly products of past scientific experiments led by the Tang prior to total societal collapse.
The presence of such remarkable alien species has led to intense speculation by Anathi academia and, more recently, members of the Inquisitorius as to the planet’s past. Evidence of a catastrophic event far in the planet’s past is plentiful, however no two experts can agree on when, how, or why. Some theories even suggest that it was on the farthest Sith outposts on record, seeded after the Great Hyperspace War, or even as far back as the Hundred Year Darkness, speculation that was fueled by the discovery of a black-level classified Sith settlement, Zohassandar. It is associated with a Darth known as Ner’husat, and more loosely with the cults that emerged around Freedon Nadd, however this provides insufficient context for detailed timelines, and scientific methods such as carbon dating have proven unreliable.

# **History**
Secar was surveyed by the Republic approximately a hundred years before the Treaty of Coruscant, however despite having a breathable atmosphere, its remote location and harsh environment were deemed to be fatal obstacles to colonization. A single scientific outpost was established and later abandoned. However, when the Empire kickstarted the Anathi settlement, teams were sent to Secar to assess the potential for mineral wealth, and they located substantial phobium ore veins in the southern atmosphere. The Okela Corporation, named after Stellan Okela, an ambitious civil engineer, was set up to exploit mines. The main settlement was the Skandar Tao facility, which was built in a crater largely protected from the frigid winds, though at a great human cost, as the native Tang organized into a confederation to fight what they saw as encroachment upon a sacred site. Early experiments with enslaving captive Tang ended badly, as the creatures proved cunning and just intelligent enough to stage deadly breakouts. Still, mining operations endured, and were in fact expanded after Darth Nadir’s takeover of Anath.
The Dominion showed a keen interest in the exploitation of phobium, due to its role in creating armour and power cells, both vital to its strategic autonomy. Its military took control of the planet, and the Snowstorm Brigade begun peacekeeping operations to drive the Tang from sites of vital interest. Secar Labs was created by Dr. Taqquara Muzar, originally as a series of black sites on the ice world to experiment away from any possible spies or satellite surveillance. As Darth Venor solidified his hold on the Dominion, the military presence dwindled, and was replaced by DIS operatives, overtly to monitor mining operations in parallel to civilian administration. In reality, however, the DIS was creating black sites, using the same sense of privacy that had fostered Secar Labs, and the Inquisitorius came to regard the planet with keen interest as clues of an ancient Sith presence were slowly uncovered by archaeologists.

# **Dominion governance**
Secar is a special jurisdiction with no real equivalent in the Dominion. It was a military governorship, but was placed by confidential decree from the then Lord Regent under direct command from the DIS board of executives, which maintains a number of classified ongoing operations, black sites and data centers there. It houses one of the most secret places in the Dominion: the mountain prison only known as “the Splint”, the only facility authorized to hold Force-users and prisoners classed as “[Midnight](https://nightfall-dominion.org/hub/index.php?r=wiki%2Fpage%2Fview&title=Midnight+%5BCentralized+Military+Command%5D&cguid=1ce7f375-cc51-48c3-8a0d-5ce8b4ececfa)”, though it also houses a number of hardened criminals, terrorists and even undercover assets. The Splint’s location, access methods and prisoner roster are kept even from members of the Sith Order and DIS operatives.
Secar is where Venor’s secrets go to die.
