The Nightfall Dominion is a Sith-ruled monarchy encompassing several inhabited worlds of the Ferra Sector. In 25 ATC, the two highest-ranking Sith under the then-ruler of the Dominion, Darth Morgal, seized power in a vicious coup d’Etat, and agreed to a [dual regime](https://nightfall-dominion.org/hub/index.php?r=wiki%2Fpage%2Fview&title=Dominion+Dyarchy&cguid=1ce7f375-cc51-48c3-8a0d-5ce8b4ececfa), under which [Darth Venor](https://nightfall-dominion.org/hub/index.php?r=wiki%2Fpage%2Fview&title=Darth+Venor&cguid=1ce7f375-cc51-48c3-8a0d-5ce8b4ececfa) would be recognized as head of State and head of civilian government, while [Darth Ensis](https://nightfall-dominion.org/hub/index.php?r=wiki%2Fpage%2Fview&title=Darth+Ensis&cguid=1ce7f375-cc51-48c3-8a0d-5ce8b4ececfa) would retain full control of the military. This alliance proved surprisingly resilient, as the Dominion weathered grievous crises, fending off a [Jedi Crusade](https://nightfall-dominion.org/hub/index.php?r=wiki%2Fpage%2Fview&title=%5BSource%5D+Pelagia+Crusade+&cguid=1ce7f375-cc51-48c3-8a0d-5ce8b4ececfa), a renegade [Insurgency](https://nightfall-dominion.org/hub/index.php?r=wiki%2Fpage%2Fview&title=%5BSource%5D+The+Insurgency&cguid=1ce7f375-cc51-48c3-8a0d-5ce8b4ececfa), a violent confrontation with a [Zakuulan remnant](https://nightfall-dominion.org/hub/index.php?r=wiki%2Fpage%2Fview&title=War+of+Fog&cguid=1ce7f375-cc51-48c3-8a0d-5ce8b4ececfa), and the heating up of its cold war with the [Fal Hierarchy](https://nightfall-dominion.org/hub/index.php?r=wiki%2Fpage%2Fview&title=Freehold+Campaign&cguid=1ce7f375-cc51-48c3-8a0d-5ce8b4ececfa). In 28 ATC, following a rampage by Amerys Devraki’s Cult of the One, the Sith Empire attempted to assert direct control over the Dominion, only to find its efforts thwarted and fleet destroyed, allegedly by the very same cult. Capitalizing upon this show of weakness, Darth Venor declared independence, using the sector’s isolation and distance from the embattled Sith Empire to his advantage. With support from the leading Sith and most of the officers and politicians within the Dominion, he personally took the throne as its first monarch, ushering a new era for the leading Dark Side power in the Far Outer Rim.

# **Overview**
The Nightfall Dominion currently occupies the worlds of Anath, Secar and Tryos in the Sast system, as well as the moon of Crassus, around the gas planet Fortuna, and the worlds of Deimos and Asyvanor. Its capital is New Anthium, on Anath, where its main centers of power are located.
![>](https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/869310194931351593/1114990630637150288/image.png =340x)Most of the Dominion’s worlds are hard to access from the main hyperlanes, and closer to the Geonosis-Excarga route, which normally sees relatively little use. It is shielded by the Cruciferum, a zone of dense gases, and the Cloak of the Sith, a historically fraught area only crossed by a small unstable path that runs through Molavar and Roon.
With a total population close to 42 million individuals, and rapidly growing through migration from Hypori, Freehold and the recently ravaged world of Systarch, the Dominion is largely self-sufficient in power generation and agriculture. Anath, a prosperous agriworld, is seeing rapid development in its heavy industry, while the more established Crassian economy is recovering from decades of atrophy due to overreliance on its extremely lucrative hyperfuel trade. The severance from the Empire has accelerated a political drive to strategic autonomy in the areas of ship-building and weapons manufacture, which the Dominion is on its way to accomplishing thanks to forays into the field of bio-polymer, and shipments of valuable agrocite crystals from its mines on Deimos. It has even begun building up its own financial sector, with a partial sale of stock in the state-owned Parallon Industries, and the initial public offering on Deimos Holdings, a venture largely set up by the Sith to profit off the increasing trade of expensive commodities the Dominion monopolistically controls sector-wide.
Due to the migration process, the Dominion is more diverse than most species-centric governments, and although the majority of its population is human and will likely remain that way, it has strong minorities of Twi’lek and Rattataki, as well as smaller contingents of species native to Republic space, like Mirialans, Zabraks and Rodians. Human-centric attitudes are common at the highest level of political and military power, but official policy is to bar discrimination on the basis of species. In fact, the Dominion has some policies that are considered far more progressive than the Sith Empire, with a strict ban on slavery, and few restrictions on who gets to participate in public service. However, censure and thought policing are powerful tools openly used by the civilian government to rein in the expansive population, and political offenses can often lead to one-way trips to the gulags built in the greatest secret on Anath and Crassus, or worse, the Splint on [Secar](https://nightfall-dominion.org/hub/index.php?r=wiki%2Fpage%2Fview&title=Secar&cguid=1ce7f375-cc51-48c3-8a0d-5ce8b4ececfa).

# **Political regime**
The Dominion is avowedly a totalitarian monarchy, whose worlds are run by distinct planetary governments under the mandate of an appointed governor: Marcus Renton-Knowles for Anath, Moran Stern for Crassus, general Jun Zu Heri for Deimos, and Cato Veridius for Asyvanor, while Secar and Tryos are a feudal mess of military bases, scientific installations, black sites and private mining operations. Supreme authority rests in the hands of its king, Darth Venor, who keeps a close eye on the affairs of each world, through the governors and his own parallel state: the [Dominion Intelligence Service](https://nightfall-dominion.org/hub/index.php?r=wiki%2Fpage%2Fview&title=Dominion+Intelligence+Service&cguid=1ce7f375-cc51-48c3-8a0d-5ce8b4ececfa), or DIS.
The DIS’s main function is absolute surveillance of both the levers of State, and the population’s response. It is comprised of extensive networks of specialized operatives, voluntary informants, and covert services within the Justicar law enforcement apparatus. It also involves secretive task forces, such as the Inquisitorius, whose main task is the monitoring of Force-related threats to the king’s rule, even from within. These are the hidden embodiment of Darth Venor’s absolute level of control on Dominion society, while more overt signs, such as his cult of personality, affiliated political organizations, propaganda-saturated state media and closely regulated art and literature sectors, give an inkling of how far the DIS’s Board of Executives has implement its policy of Total State.
However, planetary governments function on a more mundane, secular structure, with each governor appointing skilled ministers to oversee traditional sectors of power, with a few notable exceptions. The Ministry of Justice is the same for all worlds, and Darth Venor retains personal control of its portfolio, while both the Foreign Affairs and Defense ministries are entirely non-existence. The military is self-governed under the Warmarshal, Darth Ensis, whose decisions on occasions supersede the objections of governors. Contact with foreign powers nominally rests with the king, who is the ultimate signatory of any and all pacts with other nations, but much of the legwork is in fact done by the armed forces, either through the discreet coercive touch of [Military Intelligence](https://nightfall-dominion.org/hub/index.php?r=wiki%2Fpage%2Fview&title=Military+Naval+Intelligence&cguid=1ce7f375-cc51-48c3-8a0d-5ce8b4ececfa), or the more courteous ways of the [Diplomatic Corps](https://nightfall-dominion.org/hub/index.php?r=wiki%2Fpage%2Fview&title=Diplomatic+Corps&cguid=1ce7f375-cc51-48c3-8a0d-5ce8b4ececfa). Emissaries personally named by the king, such as Lord Exoria, act with the backing of those institutions, as the military will consistently emphasize that “diplomacy is just the continuation of war through other means.”

# **The Sith**
A crucial element in the legitimacy of Darth Venor’s regime is the hallowed status of Sith in the Dominion, where they are widely feared, but also held in considerable awe. State propaganda wastes no opportunity to emphasize the importance of the Dark Side in the fledgling state’s rise to prominence, and the king himself, a powerful sorcerer in his own right, takes full advantage of this, sometimes demonstrating his arcane prowess in great spectacles of eldritch might.
Training and supervising the Sith nominally falls to Darth Ensis, as the Overseer of all darksiders in the sector, while Darth Venor retains a role as the Sith’s spiritual leader. The king fields the only praetorian guard of Force-sensitives, the Brethren, while his apprentice Lord Vindicta leads the dreaded Inquisitorius, solidifying their place as the Order’s philosophical arbiter. Meanwhile, Darth Ensis commands the allegiance of three of the most skilled warriors in the sector: [Lord Tiresias](https://nightfall-dominion.org/hub/index.php?r=wiki%2Fpage%2Fview&title=Lord+Tiresias&cguid=1ce7f375-cc51-48c3-8a0d-5ce8b4ececfa), the Dominion’s chief strategist; Lord Vysht, a fearsome field commander; Lord Vanatis, a rising star within the Navy. But they must constantly look to heresies, as the conversion of the Zakuulan remnant on Asyvanor to the Dark Side is incomplete, and may yet be the work of an entire generation. The Sith’s hold over the Dominion is far from adamant, as they lack the numbers and leadership skills to fill out ministries and staff armies, but it is underpinned by truly dangerous individuals with almost mythical reputations.

# **The armed forces**
The Dominion’s military is led by Darth Ensis, a veteran of Rhen Var, Dantooine and Taris, whose reputation as a cunning and charismatic general has only been further confirmed in recent years, through no less than three major military campaigns (the Conquest of Deimos, the War of Fog, and the Freehold Campaign). He personally oversees the [top level of military staff](https://nightfall-dominion.org/hub/index.php?r=wiki%2Fpage%2Fview&title=Midnight+%5BCentralized+Military+Command%5D&cguid=1ce7f375-cc51-48c3-8a0d-5ce8b4ececfa) as supreme commander. Under him are three branches:
* The [Nightfall Fleet](https://nightfall-dominion.org/hub/index.php?r=wiki%2Fpage%2Fview&title=The+Nightfall+Fleet&cguid=1ce7f375-cc51-48c3-8a0d-5ce8b4ececfa), one of the most extensive navies in the sector, led by admiral Jor-Alec Lamentis. With two dreadnoughts, five destroyers, two heavy transports and sixteen [frigates](https://nightfall-dominion.org/hub/index.php?r=wiki%2Fpage%2Fview&title=Atropos-class+frigate&cguid=1ce7f375-cc51-48c3-8a0d-5ce8b4ececfa) as well as many smaller ships from the gunship level down, it employs close to 65 000 crewmen, officers and permanently contracted personnel, with reserve forces ready to be put in action.
* The [Dominion Army](https://nightfall-dominion.org/hub/index.php?r=wiki%2Fpage%2Fview&title=Legion+System&cguid=1ce7f375-cc51-48c3-8a0d-5ce8b4ececfa), also known as the Legions, a powerful ground army led by field marshal Morphos Haazel. With ten full legions, 112 000 legion troopers and officers, and further staff officers, auxiliaries and unaffiliated guards, it easily numbers in the 140 000, though its reserves are direly depleted after seven years of almost continual ground warfare.
* The recently created [Military Intelligence](https://nightfall-dominion.org/hub/index.php?r=wiki%2Fpage%2Fview&title=Military+Intelligence&cguid=1ce7f375-cc51-48c3-8a0d-5ce8b4ececfa), a much-feared instrument of galactic expansion through asymmetric warfare under Lord Tiresias. Born from Naval Intelligence, it possesses a formidable repository of information and data analysts collectively referred to as the Warmind, the brains behind Dominion espionage, diplomacy and warfare. While exact numbers are fluid, due to the constant push to recruit new operatives, analysts and assets, it is estimated to employ upwards of 10 000 staff and officers, and maintain networks of informants and collaborators through the sector and even beyond, numbering in the dozens of thousands.
With protected lines in the budget, and a latitude afforded to no other organization outside of the DIS itself, the military’s power has consistently been held in check by the Warmarshal’s own concessions to Darth Venor in terms of surveillance. While military courts retain the right to judge their own in most cases, DIS operatives have been authorized to operate on military bases in the wake of the Insurgency, and Military Intelligence has had to share some of its confidential intel with the Board of Executives. This *quid pro quo* is not without its political arithmetics, as the good will the military has bought in blood and vows of allegiance has been repaid in a massive share of government budget, and concessions to build its bases on strategically important land, allowing it to consistently develop to match the growing threats against the king’s own Dominion.
